It mounts a 30.4-megapixel CMOS sensor with a DIGIC 6+ processor, and its big leap over the Mark III was the analog-to-digital conversion on the chip itself: that translates into improved dynamic range and shadow recovery, which was historically Canon's weak point. The autofocus is very competent, with 61 points through the viewfinder and smooth Dual Pixel CMOS AF in Live View.

What lenses are compatible with the Canon EOS 5D Mark IV?
It uses the Canon EF mount, so it accepts the entire catalog of Canon EF mount lenses, both from Canon and third parties (Sigma, Tamron, etc.). Note: it does not mount EF-S lenses for APS-C sensors or the RF lenses from mirrorless cameras. However, if you ever migrate to a Canon EOS R body, your EF lenses can be reused with an EF-RF adapter.
Is it good for video?
It records 4K DCI up to 30p and Full HD up to 60p, but with real limitations: it applies a sensor crop of approximately 1.74x that makes wide-angle difficult, uses the Motion JPEG codec (very heavy files that require fast CF cards), and does not offer 4K at 60p. For photography it is outstanding; if your main priority is video, it is not the best option.
Does it have in-body image stabilization?
No. The 5D Mark IV does not incorporate internal stabilization (IBIS), as was common in Canon SLRs of its era. Stabilization depends on the lens: look for Canon lenses with the IS designation if you need to compensate for movement.
What battery does it use and how much battery life does it have?
It uses the Canon LP-E6N battery, also compatible with LP-E6 and LP-E6NH from the Canon ecosystem. Its CIPA battery life is around 900 shots per charge using the viewfinder, a very good figure compared to equivalent mirrorless cameras. In Live View and video it drops considerably, as with any SLR.
Is it a good camera for beginners?
It is a professional full-frame body: it delivers excellent results, but its ergonomics and menus are designed for those who already control exposure and manual focus. If you are starting out, the learning curve is steeper and the investment in full-frame lenses is greater. For an advanced amateur who wants to make the leap to full-frame, it is a great choice.
What should I check when buying a used one?
First, the shutter count: the camera does not display it in its menu, so you have to read it with external software; always ask for it. Canon does not publish an official shutter durability for this model, but the industry reference is around ~150,000 actuations, and many bodies exceed 200,000 without issue. Also check the grip rubber (it tends to peel with use), that the CF card door and covers close properly, that no Err codes appear, and the condition of the sensor (take a photo at f16 against the sky to detect dust or fungus).
Is it worth it today compared to a modern mirrorless camera?
It depends on your use. For photography it remains a fully current body, with outstanding image quality, proven reliability, and access to the huge and inexpensive EF lens market. Compared to current mirrorless cameras, it loses in eye/subject detection through the viewfinder and in video capabilities, but for price-performance in the used market it is hard to beat.
