What lenses are compatible with the A6000?
It uses the Sony E mount. It accepts both E lenses designed for APS-C and FE full-frame lenses (these use the central area due to the 1.5x crop factor). With adapters it also supports Sony/Minolta A and other brands' lenses in manual focus. You can see the range in our collection of Sony E mount lenses. A tip: the 16-50mm PZ kit lens is convenient but optically weak; many users swap it for prime lenses.
Does it shoot 4K?
No. The A6000 records at most Full HD 1080p at 60p (AVCHD or MP4). It also lacks a microphone jack and headphone output and has rolling shutter, so it's not the ideal choice for serious video. For photography, however, it performs more than adequately.
Is it good for beginners?
Yes, it's an excellent first system camera due to its size, fast AF, and image quality. The only downside is that Sony's menus from this generation are somewhat confusing and it has only one control dial, but you'll master it in no time.
How long does the battery last?
It uses the battery NP-FW50, with about 360 shots (viewfinder) or 420 (screen) per the CIPA standard; in real use it usually ranges 300-400 depending on Wi-Fi, cold, and screen use. It's modest battery life, so we recommend carrying one or two spare batteries. It charges via USB in the body.
Is it reliable to buy this camera used?
Yes. It's a very robust model and there's a huge used market. As a rough industry reference, for cameras in this class, shutter life is often cited as around 100,000 actuations, although Sony doesn't publish an official figure and it's only an estimate, not a guarantee. As a guide: under 10,000 is almost new, between 10,000 and 30,000 is excellent light use. Always ask for the shutter count, which can be read via EXIF.
What should I check when buying it used?
Check the shutter count, the condition of the OLED viewfinder and the tilting screen (dead pixels, looseness), the real health of the battery, and whether it includes a charger. Take a photo of a white wall at f/16 to detect dust or spots on the sensor, and check that the firmware is updated. At Camera Market, every unit undergoes quality control before being sold.
Does it have image stabilization?
Not in the body (no IBIS). Stabilization is only available if the lens incorporates it (Sony's OSS system). Keep that in mind when choosing lenses if you shoot handheld in low light.
